“Just follow signs for ‘Kalba’, you will get to Fujairah eventually!” Are you serious? And you say this to someone who is directionally-challenged? (Yes I do face a lot of challenges, don’t I?) The road to Kalba, hence ‘eventually-leading-to-Fujairah’ was scary to say the least. Especially, if you are driving a 4.7 liter engine that is fragile. If the palm of my hands were anything to go by, I was nervous. So, the road to Kalba was made for the adventurous, I’m pretty sure. It is an upward and downward ride, in-between, over and under the Kalba / Fujairah mountains. The swerves were the scariest. They tell you the speed limit and to slow down only once you have swerved!
‘Oh boy, let me make it safely to my destination’, I prayed. Of course, I was late (again) because I was driving at 10 km an hour after some of those fearsome turns. You plan for traffic, yes, you also plan for driving slowly and taking it easy. This, you don’t account for. I didn’t.
My destination? Fujairah City Center. Purpose of making the trip? To cover the opening of the first ever Vincci store in the Emirate. The promotion angle? The first 100 ladies that walk into the store barefooted walk out with a free pair of sandals. To me, it seemed like an interesting story for the blog. Hence, the trip.
After huffing my way to the store, meeting all those lovely ladies and the happiness on their faces after they received their free pair of sandals, it made the trip to Fujairah through the ‘Kalba road’ worth it.
