These are women of fortitude, splendor and above all generosity. In celebration of the International Women’s Day on March 8th, Mall of the Emirates launched a 10-day campaign entitled, ‘It’s a Women’s World this March at MOE’ from the 1st of March to the 10th of March 2012. We were invited for a luncheon at the Fauchon Cafe, MOE, to have the opportunity to meet these incredible women.

There are five women that this campaign salutes. These women have dedicated their lives to worthy causes. Katrina Thornely is Patient Support Director of the Emirates Arthritis Foundation. DIAF had the opportunity to interview her for World Arthritis Day a few months ago. You can watch that interview here.

Ayesha Kelaif, owner and Founder of the Dubai Animal Rescue Center (DARC) started the non-profit organization in 1999. DARC specializes in the rescue and treatment of exotic aminals, while at the same time providing education to children and adults about the importance of caring and sharing their lives with animals. DIAF spoke to Alexandra, who was representing Ayesha at the luncheon. Alexandra spoke about the initiative, talked optimistically about a better and safer scenario for pets in the city and more. Please watch the second video to see what she has to say.

Lama Bazzari is the CEO and Founder of NStyle International. ‘Give NStlye’ is a training platform established to educate impoverished women to become beauticians, a skill that generates a monthly income and enables them to support their families. More than 1,000 women have been trained to date.

Saher Shaikh, Founder and Director of Adopt-a-Camp has provided aid to over 29,100 laborers in 39 camps across the UAE. She started Adopt-a-Camp seven years ago after seeing their living conditions first-hand. Saher spoke candidly about the campaign, what makes her wake up every morning and what we can do to help in our own small way.

Ebtisam Abdulaziz is a UAE-based artist. A mathematics and Science graduate, Ebtisam began working as an artist in 1999 after she realized her penchant for painting and media. Ebtisam actively supports START, a non-profit organization established by Art Dubai and Al Mahad Foundation that uses art to heal and educate poor children across the Middle East. She spoke to us about art in the region and why she is passionate about this cause.
