Andrea Brocca was on my do-to list of people to interview for Dubai in a Frame. Little did I know that I wouldn’t have to make an effort to get through to him. Andrea was one of the four shortlisted contestants that was to take part in the Harper’s Bazaar World of Fashion 2011 Illustration competition at the Mall of the Emirates. Just 15 years of age, this Italian born, Dubai-raised teenager has it sorted. He says, “I have planned my life ahead, since I was a baby. I always knew.” I am always envious of people who ‘always knew’ what they want to do, career-wise.
The judges for the competition were Claire Lambert, Group Art Director, ITP Consumer Publishing, Marcela Gutierrez, International Fashion Illustrator and internationally renowned artist, Patricia Millns. I had the opportunity to speak with Patricia Millns and two of the four contestants, Andrea Brocca and Salvador Suerte. Salvador, who has a full-time job working with a fashion designer in the city, says he entered the competition, “just on impulse.”
Watch the show, a quick chat with judge Patricia Millns and the two contestants.
The video is long enough for you to watch, I should stop writing at this point.
